Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. So if you are an established reader whose loyalty to Tharg has been unwavering, or if you’ve dropped off reading 2000AD, lie somewhere in between or if you are a newcomer to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic then please let me know via the comments or hit me up on my socials!
Without further ado…
Welcome to Prog 251 featuring ‘Ace Trucking‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘Nemesis the Warlock‘, ‘Rogue Trooper‘, ‘The Mean Arena‘, and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 13 February 1982.

My pick of the Prog is: Tharg’s Future-Shocks
Script Robot: Alan Moore
Art Robot: Paul Neary
Lettering Robot: Pete Knight
I’m a big fan of Stephen King and, naturally, any story that resembles his work is a dead cert for me. Here, in All of Them Were Empty we see humans cooped up in a diner being tormented by persons unknown from outside. As it turns out in this Hitchcock/King crossover of sorts, vehicles were sentient and were relying on these humans to refuel them. In a mashup of what I think to be Hitchcock’s The Birds and Stephen King’s Trucks (a short story which was published in Night Shift as well as being made into two features, Maximum Overdrive and Trucks). The Future-Shock is short but I thoroughly enjoyed it as Trucks was one of my favourite stories that I read when I was about seven or eight so it hit me with a surge of nostalgia and I was quick to Google whether this was published first and had hoped Stephen King had maybe read 2000AD and took inspiration from it but, alas, Trucks was originally published in Cavalier Magazine in 1973 and later in King’s Night Shift in 1978. *sadge*
Prog 251 mauled by a sentient truck! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 252.
Florix Grabundae!
