Nerdful Things – The Ralph Report
It’s no secret that I love listening to podcasts (see Podcasts I’m Listening to) and I love Kevin Smith and a number of people in his circle. If it weren’t for Hollywood Babble-On, I probably would never have come to know of Ralph Garman (aside from seeing his name in the credits of Family Guy).
So, after a few years of listening to Ralph and Kevin on HBO, I decided to download as many of the back catalogue of episodes as I could of the Kevin & Bean Show. I soon fell in love with the show and the mock phone-ins featuring people referred to in news stories they were talking about and so on cracked me up. The humour and camaraderie made it one of my favourite podcasts. So, when I found out (through a post Kevin Smith posted) that Ralph had been fired from KROQ I was devastated – as were many others.
After giving them 20 years of laughs loyalty & his life, @kroq just shit-canned my Babble brother @RalphGarman because of budget cuts. But worse? They won’t let Ralph say WHY he’s fired on @kevinandbean today! Listen LIVE as Ralph gets K-robbed of his job: https://t.co/ARz7gxkip7 https://t.co/TSplnmiyVV

I’m quite a way behind on my episodes so I have plenty of Ralph to go but once done, I have a feeling I’ll be unsubscribing from the show. I enjoy Kevin, Bean and Allie Mac Kay as well as Beer Mug, Dave et al, but without Ralph it will never bee the same. The shows where Ralph is off and Allie steps in is bad enough (not a reflection on Allie as she’s fab, but it’s just not the same)… I will try and listen to a few post-Ralph episodes but I can’t shake the feeling that the show will have gone to shit.
So, when I found out that Ralph had started a new venture on Patreon I was over the moon. Daily doses of Ralph on the Ralph Report – what’s not to love? Plus, I am helping out a man who has given me many laughs under his many guises and hats such as HBO, K&B and so on. I am proud to say that I am a Four-Star General of the Garmy.
It launched on 22 January 2018 but Ralph put up a couple of free teaser episodes, mainly some Bachelor Reports (a segment he did on the Kevin & Bean Show) and it was good to hear him speak freely without the limitations of radio – much like HBO.
We’re now two full episodes in and Ralph has delivered. It’s a daily show with the odd extra chucked in – his guest this week is Jimmy Kimmel so the interview is split into episodes and Ralph uploaded a video of the pair yesterday available only to Patrons. I’ve never supported anyone on Patreon before but I am super chuffed and proud to support one of my favourite funny men.
If you’re not familiar with Ralph and his work then you’re missing out. From working with Kevin Smith on HBO as well as featuring in some of Kev’s later movies, he has worked on Batman ’66/Green Hornet and he was integral in Adam West finally getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as detailed in the documentary, ‘Starring Adam West‘. He is a HUGE Batman fan and has a very famous collection of ’66 Batman memorabilia. A taste of which you can see in the Ralph Report teaser below.
I too am on Patreon – I joined a few months back and I have had a couple of people show their support – so thank you very much! You can give as much or as little as you want – I’m trying to come up with ways to reward my Patrons and any existing supporters will automatically be eligible so stay tuned! If you would like to support me, you can click on the image below or click here.
In the meantime, I highly recommend supporting Ralph in his new venture! Oh, and check out the video Kevin Smith put up on Facebook Live of Ralph’s extensive collection. I had the pleasure of catching this live (albeit a few minutes in)… #GarmyStrong
