That Fat Boy Slims – The Ketogenic Diet – Day 24
My first day off work this week and the grogginess and difficulty in getting up out of bed was far reduced this morning. My wife was up earlier than usual and I was up before 07:30 whereas on school mornings, I am typically up around 07:50/08:00. I weighed and lost the 2lbs I had gained yesterday. Despite the lack of proper weight loss, I do feel smaller again and plan on trying on some more clothes I haven’t been able to wear for months at some point this week.
On top of making the kids’ packed lunches, I made my wife and I bulletproof coffees. I had meant to try the liquid stevia drops but totally forgot. Nonetheless, it tasted as nice as it always does. We walked the kids to school and, thankfully, the weather has been a lot cooler and overcast – it looked like it wanted to rain pretty much all day but then we only had a few spots of rain periodically but not enough to do anything.
We didn’t walk to get Georgia as we needed the car to head over to Brynmawr to pick up the cross-trainer from Lauren’s mum’s house. So we grabbed it, then came back to Merthyr and stopped by B&M Bargains to pick up some bits and bobs. I mainly wanted Moose Juice. I don’t drink much of it but when I fancy something a bit more flavourful than water and something fizzy, this has become my go to. It’s not for everyone, mind. It can spike blood sugar and can also cause sugar cravings as well as become fairly addictive. I’ve had a couple previously and haven’t noticed any negative effects so I’m happy to keep going.
For lunch, we ate our leftovers from last night. I had a load of my kebab left and I hadn’t even touched the burgers. Because I have no idea how to log it in My Fitness Pal, I have skipped uploading my macros and focusing on them yesterday and today. I know my carbs are super low and that’s the main thing.
Before we walked to get the eldest two from school, I ended up doing just over 2.5k on the cross-trainer and I felt great from it. I’d hurt my knee getting it into the car in Brynmawr – I kinda twisted after I’d put it in the boot and my knee just started throbbing. It eased up massively after this little feat on the machine. The walk to the school was good going and the temperature had dropped a little more so it was nice.
My wife and I were discussing some of the changes keto seems to have brought about. The main point we shared was the sweat. I have found I am sweating when I’m not even doing much. My arms are sweating. Like, my forearms. That’s never happened before, I don’t think. My wife has had similar experiences. The sweat feels different too – like it’s a film over my skin – and it feels quite uncomfortable.
When we got home, we did a spot of housework and then sorted the kids’ dinner. I feel bad giving them chips and frozen southern fried chicken. I need to research keto for kids in great detail to see how we can do it and make sure they get all the nutrients and minerals that their dietary requirements hold.
I did a bit more on the cross-trainer and then decided to shave my head (at long last) and had a chill in the bath for a bit. I was planning on making the dish that I had planned to make on Sunday but the chicken breasts I had in the fridge were off so I’ve gotta defrost the other lot so I won’t be able to make a start on that until tomorrow. Fuck’s sake.
I decided to write u a shopping list by going through our “The Beginner’s Keto Diet Cookbook” and picking recipes I fancy trying. I picked out a mix of snacks and main meals as well as desserts. Again, as I fucking loathe cooking, to feel excited and actually loook forward to making and then consuming these is testament to some of the significant changes keto has had on me. The awkward thing is figuring out where to get some of the ingredients and what the fuck they are…but I’ll manage!
I did my first comparison picture today. As I’m not a big selfie taker, I had to go back as far as January for my initial pic and then took one just after I got out the bath. I can see some changes but they’re not drastic. One thing I’m happy with is the loss of the bags under my eyes as I think that ages me massively. I’m 34, like.
I currently use Muscle Food and their amazing deals on meat hampers. If you want to grab yourself a great deal, head over here.
Additional supplements such as Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Oil etc. we get from Holland & Barrett.
