Welcome to Prog 76 featuring ‘Inferno!‘, ‘Ant Wars‘, ‘Robo-Hunter’, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘Dan Dare‘Â and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 5 August 1978.
Cover Art Robot: Ian Gibson
I always enjoy a cover that shows off a new story/character’s debut in the Progs and this is no different. I know nothing about Robo-Hunter aside from seeing some covers/artwork from the series as well as a video on the 2000AD Youtube Channel for the ABC series, of which I’ve watched most but haven’t gotten to this particular one yet.
My Pick of the Prog in this issue is ‘Inferno‘ in its finale.
Script Robot: Tom Tully
Art Robot: Belardinelli
Lettering Robot: Peter Knight
The Syndicate story-line meets its conclusion after all, bar two, of the Hellcats meet their demise and we have a striking panel of Giant and Cindy at their graves paying their respects. I was truly gutted at the closure of this story as I had expected most of the team to make it but I guess it ended as the Heroes‘ story began making it come full circle.
I also want to give a special mention to Robo-Hunter – I can sense this becoming one of my favourites. The last panel in particular made me laugh – the humour is great, the tone and Sam Slade is going to be a potential favourite character of mine if his run continues as it started.
Prog 76 dead and buried! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 77!
