2000ADHD – A Prog a Day – Prog 492

Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. So if you are an established reader whose loyalty to Tharg has been unwavering, or if you’ve dropped off reading 2000AD, lie somewhere in between or if you are a newcomer to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic then please let me know via the comments or hit me up on my socials!

Welcome to Prog 492 featuring ‘Metalzoic‘, ‘Ace Trucking‘, ‘Strontium Dog‘, ‘Sooner or Later‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 18 October 1986.

As much as I don’t enjoy the Metalzoic story (mainly because I have no clue what the fuck is going on), the covers and the overall artwork are fantastic. This cover in particular makes me think of Horizon Zero Dawn and it makes me wonder, did it have any influence in the slightest in that franchise?

So I have gone from having never heard of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman until maybe last year when I read that Tim Burton plans on that being his next project to then falling into a rabbit hole of movie hosts, Letterboxd lists and then seeing this adorn the pages of 2000 AD. I realise I should have heard about the 50 Foot Woman ages ago as I’m fairly sure they did that in Monsters vs Aliens – I haven’t watched it since it was released so can’t really remember. It’s a sad and unfortunate story this one but really enjoyable. Not too sure of the hand writing elements as that took a bit of getting used to. I loved Dredd‘s line: “I got a fifty-foot indecent exposure”.
