2000ADHD – A Prog a Day – Prog 510

Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. So if you are an established reader whose loyalty to Tharg has been unwavering, or if you’ve dropped off reading 2000AD, lie somewhere in between or if you are a newcomer to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic then please let me know via the comments or hit me up on my socials!

Welcome to Prog 510 featuring ‘Bad Company‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘,’The Dead‘, ‘Strontium Dog‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 21 February 1987.

My pick of the Prog is: Judge Dredd

The Taxidermist comes to a surprise conclusion in this Prog. I loved this story and it felt like I’ve come to know the formula for Dredd in that nothing gets by him, he always gets his perp but Wagner and Grant pulled a blinder here by switching that up on us. Now that Don Giovanni Lambretta is dead, there’s no way of delivering the stuffed display he has laboured on and so now he has to undo all of his work and get rid of the skins: the only evidence tying him to a crime. After a malfunction of his grinding machine thing, he’s left with the skins to dispose of and ends up venturing out at night only to be accosted by some thugs before Dredd turns up and shows them what’s what. Pulse pounding, Dredd handles the package but ends up stuffing it into the grinder and they both go off on their merry way. This blew my mind as I genuinely thought the jig was up for Sardini but what an awesome conclusion to an enjoyable story!
