Frugal Rock – Muscle Food New Year Hamper
So, new year new me? Nope. I’m the same cunt I’ve always been. BUT, I do need to shift some weight as I have a load of cool t-shirts from Shirtpunch and so on that I don’t (can’t) wear at the moment as I’m on the chunkier side.
A couple of years ago, I was on a fitness kick and lost over two and a half stone, worked out and looked pretty good (which is a big deal for me to compliment myself) but then I got chicken pox which fucked that all up – don’t get me wrong, it helped me lose more weight as I dropped to just over ten stone but once I recovered I lost my mojo and ended up gradually putting the weight back on. Previously, I’d generally sit at about 13st 5lbs – now, I daren’t even step on the scales lest it insist that there should only be one at a time. I exaggerate, I’m not THAT big but I sure as hell feel it.
So anyway, I saw the deal as pictured in the featured image on this post and thought, “That’s a bargain!” A few days later, a box full of meat – that sounds over-sexualised and I can’t find a better way of wording it, sorry – arrives. Delivered by DPD’s Dan. Dan mustn’t get many days off as all my DPD deliveries are with Dan as are most of the deliveries for the guys in work too. I did see him once up Asda doing a spot of shopping, though.
How I digress! So, the box is a pretty decent size and sturdy (I’ll be keeping it for storing stuff up in the attic) and the meat is all vacuum packed making it look a lot less remarkable than the glam shots on the site but I wasn’t really expecting a well displayed affair to be honest. It did make me feel a bit deflated mind – the generous looking portions reduced to a few packs of squished meat but as long as it all tastes good that’s all that matters.
The 2.5kg pack of chicken is a beast and, where we normally buy packs of chicken breasts from Asda, Muscle Food is certainly more cost effective for that alone. Being Scottish, I find it very hard to resist deals because I’m always one to snap them up ASAP in case I miss out and having Muscle Food regularly send me offers since signing up is a pain. It’s not that they’re annoying; more that I don’t want to pass up such good offers but I’ve never bought anything from them before so I need to make sure I like it and that the quality is good. They seem to get brilliant and regular reviews so that’s something and, now that our delivery has arrived, we will be prepping some meals and judging whether we should use them again. I have a suspicion we will.
The pictures I’ve taken don’t really do the items justice – I was kind of disappointed with the mince as we normally get the large packs of less than 5% fat from Asda so these look minuscule in comparison but again, if the quality is good then I’m certain to be getting a recurring order in with them to keep our fridge and freezer stocked up.
If you’re wondering, I did also snap a pic of the ice packs that were in the bag – I just thought they were cool. Pardon the pun.
If you want to grab yourself a great deal, head over here. They do have some great offers and I will try and post about what the quality is like and perhaps indulge in the guilty pleasure of a few food pics…Hit the image below for my referral link and you can claim one of the freebies pictured for joining!
