That Fat Boy Slims – Weight on my Mind

In a follow up to my Muscle Food post, I thought I’d share my first two days.  Before that, I want to be clear that this isn’t a “new year; new me” fad.  I NEED to lose weight.  I felt uncomfortable in my kilt at our wedding over a year ago and last year was spent doing bugger all about it.  As time goes on, less and less of my clothes fit and I’m reluctant to buy new as I can’t keep gaining weight or staying where I am as it will eventually affect my mental health and I’ve worked so hard to keep the black dog at bay that I cannot afford to let that happen.

So, now that I am in a much better place mentally, it’s about time I tackled the physical side.  I’ve written before about my weight loss a few years back and my fairly relaxed exercise regime which started to tone and build muscle but then chicken pox knocked me off track and I never regained the motivation.  I intend to change that.

I don’t know if I’ll get back into running but I’m starting off simple: sort my diet out and increase the amount of walking I do and then see where it goes from there.

Last time around, I predominantly did exercise in the house as well as heading out for a run early in the morning before work or popping over to Bryn Bach Park to do a couple of laps around the lake.  I still plan on exercising round the house – press-ups, sit-ups as well as making use of the DDP Yoga videos (I wasn’t aware of the DDP Yoga stuff back then) and I plan on doing a few climbs up Pen Y Fan this year and possibly raise money again like I did in 2016.

Here are a few snaps from 2013 when I started eating healthier and exercising (first time around).  They’re not overly impressive but, as someone who is too self-conscious to go to the gym, go swimming etc. you can see some changes…

I’ve been using  Funktional Foodsmaca, wheatgrass and hemp protein powders for the past few months – a friend in work swore by maca powder for energy levels/mood so I thought I’d give it a try as I started to hit a rut where my success against my anxiety and depression started to falter.  My energy levels are vastly improved and I have found my general mood has been much better as well.

With Christmas out of the way and most of the chocolate and other majorly unhealthy stuff gone, we figured now was the time to start and so we kicked it off by ordering a hamper from Muscle Food and grabbing an extra selection of meat for £40.  So far, we have tried the Cumberland sausages and the bacon medallions and they were stunning.  Out of the pack, the bacon appeared to be rather fatty but hopefully that was just a bad pack.  We will be putting the rest to good use soon and, if the quality stands up like the reviews say then we shall be ordering plenty from Muscle Food going forward.

Yesterday was hard.  I found myself constantly hungry and snacked on quite a bit of fruit.  Today hasn’t been as bad; so far, I have guzzled over 2L of water and alternated between coffee and green tea as well has had three meals (we skipped a meal yesterday due to having a bit of a manic day so obviously that didn’t help) and I have walked about 5 miles (on a day off work which is exceptional as I rarely get close to my 10000 steps if I don’t have work), so it’s been fairly productive.  A lot of my steps today are to the toilet, mind as I’ve had to go more times in the last two days than I normally do in a week!

I weighed myself yesterday and I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life: 16st 7.5lbs.  This must change (in a downward manner).

If you want to grab yourself a great deal, head over here.  As I said earlier, I’ve also been making good use of Funktional Foodsmaca, wheatgrass and hemp protein powders and Amazon have some great deals (especially if buying in bulk!) – I mainly use the powders in protein shakes but I occasionally add some in our home-cooked meals.
