Braun BT5060 Beard Trimmer Review
I received my Braun BT5060 set today to review. Knowing it was due to arrive, I had held off on trimming my beard and shaving my head as I knew I needed to turn a review around sharpish – back to work tomorrow and I won’t have much time between now and Christmas and any time after that would be much too late.
So, here I am. Trimmed beard and super smooth and shiny head. But before I go into details, here’s what I had and my first impressions.
At first, when I saw the RRP of £59.99 I thought it seemed a bit expensive. But then, I tried to remember when I last bought an electric razor/clippers. My last one was a Christmas gift years ago and I have no idea how much that was – I’d hazard a guess at about £40 and it pales in comparison to this device. The instructions are fairly simple – didn’t really need to refer to them except to see what each bit was for.
I left it to charge while I popped out to pick up my wife from work and get the kids from school (just under an hour) and it was ready to go when I got in. As I said, the review needed to be done as soon as possible, so I pretty much got down to business. I typically trim my beard and shave my head as part of my routine. I hadn’t long shaved my head and I gave my beard a little trim a few days ago so the head stubble just needed a razor as opposed to me trimming it with the clippers first but the trimmer seems like it’d do a good job for when I get lazy and let the head hair grow (what little I can – think old man round the sides and back style).
It usually takes me a good few minutes to trim my beard and faffing about with different bits for the trimmer but I managed to just use the one bit and change the length settings (a feature my other one doesn’t have). I’d have taken a before and after pic but my beard is pretty shit and no matter how good the razor/trimmer is, it can’t change that. Nor my face, for that matter.
So, as far as the trimmer goes, I’d highly recommend it. It also comes with a Gillette Fusion 5 Proglide. I used to love my original Fusion razor years ago and ended up trying out other brands until I found Cornerstone and have stuck with them for years. Now, I don’t think that will change any time soon but the Proglide didn’t cut my head once – it’s very rare that I come out unscathed in some shape or form (especially with a brand new blade) but the Flexball seems to work brilliantly over the contours of my head – so I may partake in these every now and again if the blades are on offer etc.
I have no idea how well the Proglide works on the face – I’d be keen to see how it fares around the jaw line as that is the most awkward part but my beard shan’t be getting removed for me to ever find out. My wife hates me having facial hair but I can’t imagine being without it now and when I have shaved it all off to start again, I ended up looking like a recently released paedophile so that’s not a look I intend to adopt again…
Overall, I am majorly impressed with this set and it may encourage me to shave more often and perhaps even take a bit more pride in my appearance! So yes, I would definitely recommend it and it would make a great gift for a man in your life. Or even a woman.
Job well done, Braun!

What is the width(in cm) of the adjustable combs?
Hey, only just seeing this so apologies and you probably already found the answer but here’s all the relevant specs etc. I could find:
Beard styling – 2 combs help to maintain short to long beards. The precision dial allows you to achieve the exact desired length in 0.5 mm steps.
39 length settings for maximum precision – Precision dial & 2 combs provide 39 length settings from 0.5 – 20 mm in 0.5 mm increments.
They don’t detail any widths, unfortunately.
Thanks, but I want to know the actual width of the combs.
