Welcome to Prog 96 featuring ‘Angel‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘Flesh‘, ‘Ro-Busters‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 20 January 1979.

Cover Art Robot: Ian Kennedy

Angel gets this week’s cover. Gotta be honest, I’m not a fan of Angel. Maybe that will change just as my feelings towards M.A.C.H.1 fluctuated (and this is very much a repackaged John Probe).

My Pick of the Prog in this issue is ‘Ro-Busters‘.

Script Robot: Pat Mills

Art Robot: Mike Dorey

Lettering Robot: Pete Knight

Ro-Busters continues with Ro-Jaws‘ memoirs as he and members of the Robot Resistance try to make good their escape through the sewers. What I loved about this was that the androids all had names of historical figures like George Washington and so on. A bit of a leap but still in keeping with something I love from another robot story which has key components from 2000AD Robocop: most of the other police officers in the movie are named after serial killers. Not quite as dignified an homage but very cool nonetheless.

Prog 96 moves on up to the storage in the cloud! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 97 as we continue on the road to Prog 100!

Florix Grabundae!
