Welcome to Prog 170 featuring ‘The Mind of Wolfie Smith‘, ‘Ro-Jaws’ Robo-Tales‘, ‘Stainless Steel Rat‘, ‘Robo-Hunter‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 26 July 1980.

Cover Art Robot: Mike McMahon

Judge Dredd makes the cover yet again this week! That’s three on the trot!

My pick of the Prog is: Ro-Jaws’ Robo-Tales

Script Robot: Alan Moore

Art Robot: John Richardson

Lettering Robot: Tom Frame

In what, I believe, is Alan Moore‘s published work in the Progs, ‘The Killer in the Cab‘ stole the show for me in this issue. I must admit, I didn’t notice the ‘credit card’ until after I’d read this Prog and came to write this post but it all makes sense. Say what you want about him, he has a particular style and way in capturing the dark twists that speak to me (and no doubt countless others). I’m not sure what other work he had completed elsewhere by this point but this tale has a lot of his hallmarks. The artwork combined with the (inter)stellar writing works brilliantly and helps deliver the shocking revelation at the end (as seen below).

Prog 170 eliminated like a human error! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 171.
