Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. So if you are an established reader whose loyalty to Tharg has been unwavering, or if you’ve dropped off reading 2000AD, lie somewhere in between or if you are a newcomer to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic then please let me know via the comments or hit me up on my socials!

Without further ado…

Welcome to Prog 259 featuring ‘Ace Trucking‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘Robo-Hunter‘, ‘The Mean Arena‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 10 April 1982.

Cover Art Robot: Ian Gibson

Sam Slade returns to the Progs as he arrives in Brit-Cit and what better way to arrive than on this weeks cover?

My pick of the Prog is: Robo-Hunter

Script Robot: Alan Grant

Art Robot: Ian Gibson

Lettering Robot: Steve Potter

It’s been a while since we saw Sam Slade (back in Prog 174). So here he is about to embark on a brand new adventure as he goes Brit-Cit-side. After being mocked by robotic customs officers, he realises that robots are the entire workforce while all the humans are on permanent holiday and the only time the humans return to the city is to collect their “leisure money“. Speaking of money, Sam has zilch and so blags his way into the Savoy by pretending to be from the Bureau of Alien Investigation and holes up in the presidential suite. Under this pretence, he manages to distribute a load of new business cards to try and drum up some work before his ruse is rumbled. Hoagy, being Hoagy, cracks me up here as he remains true to form as he is oblivious to the fact this is all a cover.

Prog 259 heads off with it’s leisure money! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 260.

Florix Grabundae!
