Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. Welcome to Prog 349 featuring ‘Nemesis the Warlock‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘Sláine‘, ‘Rogue Trooper‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 31 December 1983.

It’s the finale of Book III and what a finale it is! Chira, Nemesis’ baby mama falls at the hands of Sir Hargan who then discovers the baby, Homunculus. Just as he is about to choke the life out of the baby deviant, the powers passed on to it by Chira allowed it to inadvertently cast a spell making it appear to be a human baby. Something Sir Hargan and his wife have wanted so desperately which then provides a good cover story as they must harbour this baby in secret not only because it’s not what it seems but because Torquemada would not approve of them being parents. It’s a tale that begins with shock and sadness but finishes with some well crafted humour and a tiny baby butt in the final panel.
