Welcome to Prog 8 which features ‘Invasion!‘, ‘Flesh‘, ‘Dan Dare‘, ‘Harlem Heroes‘, ‘M.A.C.H.1‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 16 April 1977.

I’ve been struggling with figuring out how to format these posts in the sense of listing the stories in the order they’re printed or just keeping my favourite until last. Not sure what makes for better reading or if anyone who reads this just wants to see what my pick is and then buggers off? Let me know in the comments what you prefer.

For now, I think I’ll stick to the order in which they appear for the most part an put my favourite at the end.

Invasion!‘ shows us a Concorde (remember them?) and Bill Savage driving a double-decker bus as opposed to a truck.

Flesh‘ has Earl Reagan and co trying to outsmart Old One Eye.

Dan Dare‘ shows us the oral skills of the Biogs’ ship.

M.A.C.H.1‘ gets all Evel Knievelly on a motorbike against kidnappers.

Judge Dredd‘ takes off his helmet *GASP*

And my “Pick of the Prog“: ‘Harlem Heroes‘. There’s something very British (albeit very ableist and non-PC through the lens of today) about referring to someone as a “cabbage” and I must admit, it made me chuckle seeing it in print. I loved the action and the twist at the end.And that does it for Prog 8! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 9!
