Welcome to Prog 127, the first of the Tornado cross-overs featuring ‘Blackhawk‘, ‘ABC Warriors‘, ‘Disaster 1990‘, ‘The Mind of Wolfie Smith‘, ‘Captain Klep‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 25 August 1979.

Cover Art Robot: Dave Gibbons

Tharg the Mighty takes the cover this week, welcoming the heroes from Tornado!

My pick of the Prog is: Judge Dredd. It was another tough call, especially with the new thrills featured but Dredd takes it.

Script Robot: John Howard

Art Robot: Brian Bolland

Lettering Robot: Tom Frame

As soon as I saw the cloaked and top-hatted figure, I knew this was Jack the Ripper. I’ve always been fascinated by the Ripper – from reading Richard Laymon‘s ‘Savage‘ (no, not Bill Savage) which was a brilliant spin on where he may have gone and what havoc he wrought, to watching the adaptation of Alan Moore‘s (whose work I have yet to reach in the Prog timeline) ‘From Hell‘. My one gripe with this strip is that I think it would have worked brilliantly as a multi-episode tale, full of tension and detective work to sus out the culprit. I still really enjoyed it and it was an interesting twist but I did find it left me thirsting for more.

Prog 127 surgically removed! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 128.
