Welcome to my personal Prog slog through 2000AD. Here, I post daily about my favourite story from each Prog. I started doing this as a means of focusing my attention on something. A hobby, if you will. Something that will bring joy and fond memories for fans as well as draw attention to and hopefully bring in new readers to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. I have never read these Progs before. I recall reading some of Flesh at some point in my childhood, knew of Judge Dredd from a PlayStation One game and then the 1995 Movie, Rogue Trooper from the PlayStation 2 Game and had heard of other stories and seen other characters from seeing posts online. So I’m pretty much experiencing most of these stories as an intergalactic virgin. Or something. So if you are an established reader whose loyalty to Tharg has been unwavering, or if you’ve dropped off reading 2000AD, lie somewhere in between or if you are a newcomer to The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic then please let me know via the comments or hit me up on my socials!

Without further ado…

Welcome to Prog 294 featuring ‘Time Twisters‘, ‘Harry Twenty on the High Rock‘, ‘Robo-Hunter‘, ‘Rogue Trooper‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 11 December 1982.

Cover Art Robot: Ian Gibson & Carlos Ezquerra

A Tale of Two Cities on this weeks cover as we see Judge Dredd in Mega-City One and Sam Slade in Brit-Cit.

My pick of the Prog is: Judge Dredd

Script Robot: TB Grover

Art Robot: C Ezquerra

Lettering Robot: J Potter

The Executioner wraps up in part four after Dredd realises it must be a Judge who is dropping bodies. I loved this story and the visuals. It reminded me of one of my favourite animated Batman movies: Mask of the Phantasm. This is another story I feel could have lasted a few more episodes – less of Play it Again, Sam and more of this thank you please. I enjoy a good tale of revenge, especially when it is entirely relatable and ends in tragedy – kicks you right in the guy! And The Executioner is such a cool looking character as well. Such a shame.
Full coloured opening pages of Judge Dredd from Prog 294. We see the funeral of Nicholas Tatum in RESYK and a Judge informing Judge Dredd that the latest victim is Mo Chivo who has a note across his mouth saying "Justice IS DONE!" Dredd is talking to a rookie who discovered the bodies which gives Dredd a hunch that the Executioner is a Judge.

Prog 294 gets served! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 295.

Florix Grabundae!
