That Fat Boy Slims – The Ketogenic Diet – Day 15
So, day one of my two days off work. I was pretty slow in getting up out of bed again but once I was up I was okay. Made the kids’ packed lunches as usual and I weighed. I lost half a pound today so not as good a loss as I was expecting but it’s a loss so I can’t grumble too much.
After a seventeen hour fast, my wife and I had some McMuffin inspired egg and sausage ‘muffins’. The eggs replaced the muffin and were a pretty decent stand-in for the tops and bottoms. Two sausage patties and cheese sandwiched in between – it was stunning. I wasn’t overly hungry but it hit the spot and, muffin aside, I couldn’t really tell the difference between McDonald’s offering barring the fact that our version is the healthier option.
I had an energy drink today – Rockstar Revolt Killer Cooler. It was lovely. I don’t plan on having many energy drinks but I want to have something like this every so often and need something without aspartame and so on. Diet Mountain Dew is apparently the one to go for if you’re gonna have one but I couldn’t find any at all in Asda – not even the regular one!
I spent most of the afternoon researching other keto related things like website sources for recipes and ideas as well as monthly subscription boxes, joining Facebook groups and checking out various subreddits. It’s one of those things that, once you pull the thread, it just keeps going and going and you find yourself hundreds of sites, blogs, videos, infographics and whatever other media in. There’s so much info and so many people doing this but, unlike our American counterparts, we don’t have sections in Asda and so on dedicated to this lifestyle. Hopefully that changes soon.
For dinner, we had Mediterranean style pork loin chops, asparagus, cucumber spears and Philadelphia. It was delicious.
I’m looking into mixing up snacks and meal replacements and found some awesome low carb bars that I can make as well as a few other goodies. I do feel really good doing this and I feel more positive, productive and focused. Considering my anxiety, depression and whatever other tangled messes there are in my dome, I feel pretty good about life at the moment and that’s the first time I think I can say that and be 100% genuine about it. Today marks day three of no antidepressants.
During my research, I think I’ve figured out why I get regular headaches (not as regular as I did before starting this but still more than I would like) and tied that into why, despite drinking litres of water, I always feel thirsty: electrolyte deficiency. So I’m figuring out ways to try and tackle that and see what benefits are to be had. We’ll see how it goes.
