Welcome to Prog 237 featuring ‘Abelard Snazz‘, ‘Ace Trucking‘, ‘Tharg’s Future-Shocks‘, ‘The Mean Arena‘, ‘Rogue Trooper‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 7 November 1981.

Cover Art Robot: Colin Wilson

Rogue calls out a traitor on this weeks cover.

My pick of the Prog is: Abelard Snazz

Script Robot: Alan Moore

Art Robot: Mike White

Lettering Robot: Peter Knight

Abelard is back in ‘The Double-Decker Dome‘ after we assumed he had met his end back in Prog 209 and he is discovered by a doomed race known as the Farbians. The poor folks see Abelard as a deity as he resembles Toglub. Edwin, the robot assistant to Abelard has unfortunately not made made it and Abelard dumps him down a garbage disposal chute before partaking in some flirtation with a lovely Farbian called Sabrina. I love Snazz‘s demeanour in this and the fact he takes nothing seriously until he is shown what will happen to him if he cannot save this doomed race… This is quite possibly the funniest strip I’ve read in 2000AD thus far and its all thanks to the brilliant writing and Mike White‘s glorious artwork to capture it visually.

Prog 237 gets thrown to the Piranha-Dogs! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 238.
