Nerdful Things – PlayStation Plus Needs a Revamp or Just Go

A realisation hit me today after having posted the September update for PlayStation+ just the other day.  Batman: Arkham Knight is a title available on PlayStation Now, the PlayStation equivalent of Game Pass. I really like PlayStation Now, and I’ve written about it before, but I find it incredibly cheeky for a PlayStation+ offering to be on there. The monthly offerings are very up and down. More bad months than good ones, truth be told. Yet the prices have increased and, now that PS3 and Vita titles have been removed, we’re getting less for our money.
I am a PlayStation fan boy. I won’t hide that fact but I really don’t care for how things have been going with PlayStation+ and I’ve said it before and I shall say it again – we need a stronger selection of titles on PS+ or a big shake up. For example, give us monthly credits akin to Audible in which we can redeem it against any game of our choosing (or a sectioned off part of the store with a decent amount of titles to choose from if the entire store isn’t feasible). I’m fed up of already owning games that are being given for free. On the odd occasion I may only have one of the games and once, just once, I had neither of them.
I subscribe to PlayStation Plus and already own Batman: Arkham Knight anyway so I’m doubly annoyed this month.
Another idea which I would be much happier with would be scrap the existing PS+ model and just have it as PlayStation Now with the benefits of exclusive discounts on the store, cloud saves (which need to be expanded upon as I’ve maxed out my file allocation) and maybe a few other niceties they can come up with. The additions to PlayStation Now lately have been pretty decent: Fallout 4, Vampyr, Wolfenstein: The New Order and the Castlevania collection to name just a few. To me, this is a more worthwhile investment.
Interestingly, the majority if not all of the latest PlayStation Plus offerings are all on PlayStation Now. As for the timing of those additions, I’m unsure if they went on before or after their respective free doling out. Either way, it leaves a rather bitter taste in my mouth.
What do you think?
