Welcome to Prog 14 which features ‘Invasion!‘, ‘Flesh‘, ‘Dan Dare‘, ‘Harlem Heroes‘, ‘M.A.C.H.1‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 28 May 1977.

I’ve been struggling with figuring out how to format these posts in the sense of listing the stories in the order they’re printed or just keeping my favourite until last. Not sure what makes for better reading or if anyone who reads this just wants to see what my pick is and then buggers off? Let me know in the comments what you prefer.

For now, I think I’ll stick to the order in which they appear for the most part an put my favourite at the end.

Invasion!‘ has the resistance trying to attack Doomsdale Nuclear Research Station and the arrival of the Para-Kite Commandos.

Flesh‘ sees Earl Reagan and go at odds with each other while the dinosaurs and spiders consume and destroy.

The ‘Harlem Heroes‘ are fired up by ex-player and now brain in a vat, Louis Mayer, as they start the second half against the Flying Scotsmen.

Dan Dare‘ is in trouble and we see Mekon dishing out punishment.

M.A.C.H.1‘ heads to China as John Probe investigates a potential solution to the growing hunger problem.

And my “Pick of the Prog“: ‘Judge Dredd‘. Dredd faces Call Me Kenneth again as he is captured and Call Me Kenneth declares his admiration of Adolf Hitler. I loved this strip as Dredd, the figurehead of a fascist regime denounces fascism and fails to see the hypocrisy in the way of the Judges because fascism sadly boils down to a matter of perspective. Everyone is right in their own mind, and it’s dangerous territory as everyone is also wrong in others’ eyes. It’s a great juxtaposition of one form of evil pitted against another form of evil, and who is to say who is right?

Prog 14 conquered! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 15!
