Welcome to Prog 5 which features ‘Invasion!‘, ‘Flesh‘, ‘Dan Dare‘, ‘Harlem Heroes‘, ‘M.A.C.H.1‘ and ‘Judge Dredd‘, published on 26 March 1977.

I’ve been struggling with figuring out how to format these posts in the sense of listing the stories in the order they’re printed or just keeping my favourite until last. Not sure what makes for better reading or if anyone who reads this just wants to see what my pick is and then buggers off? Let me know in the comments what you prefer.

For now, I think I’ll stick to the order in which they appear for the most part an put my favourite at the end.

Invasion!‘ has Bill Savage demolishing Nelson’s column to gain the upper hand.

Harlem Heroes‘ unsettles us with the generosity that springs out of the blue from a media mogul.

Dan Dare‘ takes us inside the Biogs ‘Jonah and the Whale’ style.

M.A.C.H.1‘ shows us that John Probe can’t seem to catch a break even while he’s on holiday.

Judge Dredd‘ battles King Kong (not quite) but chaos ensues when he crosses paths with a pissed off prop master.

And my “Pick of the Prog“: ‘Flesh‘ depicts chaos unfolding in Carver City while the robot sheriff sticks to the rules. I loved this strip as it highlights the common problem with relying so heavily on technology that it will be our unmaking. The fact that, almost like Judge Dredd, despite everything that’s going on around them, the robots’ programming and logic is unwavering. To a fault.

And that’s Prog 5 done and dusted! Join me on the next one to see who/what grabs the pick of Prog 6!
